Help Suspension Doesnt work

Post by Justin1 »

Hi I have a Citroen Xantia sx 99 model 2.0
The accumulator sphere has lhm oil coming out of the nob on the top of the actual sphere itself. The rear end is basiclly on the ground and the front end is up in the air the suspension wont move at all up or down.

My question is would this all be caused by the leak from the accumulator sphere?
and will just changing it fix the problem.

P.s. there are also no brakes or power steering

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards, Justin

From your description I'd say yes replacing the accumulator will sort out all of the problems listed, the rear suspension staying up is due to the anti-sink valve closing and retaining the rear height, brakes, suspension and steering need hydraulic pressure that is now leaking away due to the sphere fault so new sphere should mean problem sorted.

It's incredibly rare for the blanking bolt on the crown of the sphere to leak: is the fluid not just running
down from the seal on the thread where the sphere mounts and is actually just collecting and dripping
off the sphere - that is if it's upside down of course!?

The system won't be working at correct pressure if there's an issue with the main accumulator sphere
as this controls the pressure provided from the main pump. There must be some pressure to lift the front
and the circuit is designed in such a way to deliver primary pressure at the main key points at the front
so this coukd explain the raised front/flat rear.

Certainly tackle the obvious visible fault with the leaking sphere first but check there's a good seal on the
threaded shoulder too!

Back's gone down because the pressure in the rear accumulator (aka anti-sink) has been exhausted by the rear brakes (as the fron't don't work!).
