Gearbox Change

Post by hamster99 »

Hi All

How difficult it is to change a 6 speed manual box on a 2005 2.0 HDI?

Having removed air filter and various other bits it seems reasonably accessible and I have done lots of work on cars previously, although nothing major in recent years.

I have a Haynes manual but don't always trust that as the current version does have errors and misses important details (not as good as they used to be...or is that my age!!) so would welcome any advice on techniques and special tools I might need, as well as any tips or things to avoid doing.

Thanks

If it is the same as on a 2.0 hdi 2001 5-speed manual, then you need to lower the right side of hte engine by a crane/jack and pull it towards the front of the car. This will allow you to "sneak" the gearbox out from underneath the car.

I just did it the other day and it is somthing like a 6-8 hour job.

It's not a lot of fun: HDi 136 clutch change

Be very careful with the +ve feed to the power board when retightening!

If possible clamp the rubber PAS return hose, and then have something ready to blank off the metal part with to reduce LDS loss.
