For my ZX 1.9D, I bought an Exide Premium battery from:-

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It seemed like a good deal. The cheaper Exide Excell battery is the standard battery they offer, but I went for a slightly better one, as I was having starting problems, and diesels need a good battery.

Carpart4less are a cheaper version of Eurocarparts (same stock, 20% cheaper?) but probably mail order only. They usually do free delivery on batteries.

You could get the same battery from Eurocarparts (but a bit more expensive), and pick it up yourself from the shop. There are sometimes discount codes available for Eurocarparts, that can be found on the internet. Try searching on Google for them.

When buying a battery, compare the Ah rating, and the CCA or "Cold Cranking Amps" rating. That's the amount of amps that the battery can deliver on a cold morning, to start the engine. Diesels need bigger batteries than petrol engines usually.

The Exide battery is sealed. I don't think it can be topped up, and shouldn't need to be. A lot of batteries are like that now. If you want one with access plugs, you might be able to find one if you hunt around.

Before you take the plunge ...just check the positive and negative leads.. make sure they're not getting hot when cranking.. I bought 2 new batteries before I discovered it was the + lead causing the problem and a couple of years later the - ve gave up as well.
Got my Bosh Batteries from Costco Great value for car bits and oil.. I save more than the renewal on my oil purchase each year.

Check the websites, some give the battery weight, generally the more lbs of lead per £ the better the battery.
