The time has come.......calling all mk1 xantia owners

Post by xantia1 »

The time has now come for my trusty xantia to move on to the great scrapyard in the sky, I have owned it for 9 years nearly and covered over 130,000 trouble free miles, with the total now nearing 300,000 miles(280 odd i think), It has been stood a while this year and i looked around it today, the body has really seen better days whch is what swayed it really and with the other little jobs needed for the MOT and to keep it running the huge mileage it has to do just wouldnt be worth it now its looking tired. Anyhow, just to let anyone know who need parts for a MK1 1.9 td sx before it gets crushed, the brake discs are about worn out as are one of the ball joints and trackrod end, the rear height correcter has a slight leek, and the exhaust has a small hole where it joins the rear silencer, the engine is due a cam belt which i have still in the box. so, being a very high miles car, and the fact it has no expence spared, the engine and gearbox bar the mileage is great, and runs fine on veg oil, it does not use oil or water, I replace the head gasket, clutch, water pump etc etc around 220,000. the front strut tops were replaced in 2009 so should be better than most, all the wheel bearings not that old, struts are leak free and in good order, drive shafts good, all abs good, rear silencer replaced beginning of the year, radiator not that old, tyres are all michellin energy savers and are not too bad 185-65-14's ..front height corrector 12 months old, interior is charcole and in really good condition considering the cars mileage. so if anyone wants any parts, you are welcome to come and take off/ out what you want and i dont want greedy or silly money for anything, whats left will go to be weighed in, so please pass the word around so people who need parts can get them before it goes. I would rather peole come to take the parts themselves as i dont have much time, but you are welcome to use my tools, my help, my tea and coffee/biscuits and workshop to do it. cant be fairer than that...... I am in North Yorkshire near Kirkbymoorside so please save another xantia before this one goes..................

A big Thank You for being selfless enough to make this generous offer. If only I didn't live so far away!

I'm not so far away - my parents' 1.9 estate is getting ready for a radiator and strut tops - I've sent you a PM. Though with a bit of exhaust welding, a balljoint, track rod end and height corrector it sounds as if she may pass another test...

Yes mechanically it would, but the body is now showing its age, front wing very rusty, rear sills holed again, rear quarter and wheel arches very rusty, also tonight it has just bust a fluid pipe and flooded my floor, It must have fallen out with me big time now!!!!

Surely once at the yard you can whip the strut tops off AT LEAST!

Fair enough at 300k the car has had a good life. It gets me when people dispose them at 150k... they are just run in then.

I personally have loads of S1 bits and one more S1 SX TD car to dismantle, Ive just done a S2 SX HDi after 300k...

distance is a problem for me to but I admire your willingness to part with the car as spares after such a long service life.
I wonder if my 160 thou engine will, ever get that far with 3K oil and filter changes.

Your 3 hours from Jims I'm about 2 hours from Jims so you must be an hour away from me  , Thats cool if you got any parts its not too far for me to go #-o .
Might be after another 1905 soon as my lad is after an early synergie with a dead engine.
He laughs each time I pour 40 litres of cooking oil in my dispatch.
Wish I was a bit closer to yorkshire I would have gone for the engine.

Sorry WotWot, Im 3 hours the other way, NORTH WALES, Anglesey....

Ive a cracking 180k engine Ive removed from a Xantia with the later far better Laminated Repair gasket fitted and it had done 10k on it before the body went on the car. By cracking, never used a drop of oil and with a recent replacment head gasket that perfectly sound for years to come! I kept the engine obviously as I knew it inside out. Yes its Bosch Pump, with no keypad immobiliser either.

Engine already removed, turbo etc all still attached. I could possibly meet you at Jims one friday for an Exchange, Im due to go down and pay Jim a visit in Newport Pagnell...
