new clamp or new exhaust?

Post by john »

Image

not related to my other thread http://goo.gl/jBazB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (well maybe indirectly), should their be a clamp on the join or is is welded? pics is the cat to mid section, i cant see how a clamp would create a seal as there is no slots for a clamp to pull together.

so how does it close up when there are no slots?

should the lip of the pipe sit in the middle of the clamp?

Yes.

The clamp edges have 45 degree slopes, and so do the flanges on the pipes, so when you tighten the clamps it pushes the two pipes together axialy.

Clamp can be a sod to fit, however pulls 2 flanges together, horrible design but that's how they are.

New clamp would keep it good for while longer.

if this joint is forward of the CAT you must not put any jointing paste in the joint, but if it is rear of the CAT you can smear some jointing paste in the bell end of the joint to help it seal when pulled to gether,

i find flange joints better the slot together joints
