2002 C5 heater fan fault

A friend has a 2002 C5 Exclusive SE, recently the heater fan has developed a mind of its own.

The fan button on the dash has no effect and the fan display is showing zero fans, however its on quite fast and the speed can vary.

Does anyone have any ideas what is the cause of this?
Perhaps its the climate control module itself?

Common fault, is will be the resistor pack in the drivers foot well, to the left of the clutch pedal (if manual). Replaced mine last year, another problem is having only hot air from the passenger side, this I have now and waiting for the new part.

An Exclusive will have a climate control module above and to the left of the clutch pedal, behind a bit of trim. Centre console)
Very easy job to change and it may be possible to repair it but a replacement is aroud £75 IIRC (bought it from TCC)
The current car has a replacement module bought from eBay I believe, for about half that price.

I have some pictures somewhere but they may take some finding.

I have the same problem with my 05 new face lift C5! I've looked down by the clutch pedal, but can't find the module. (I know what I'm looking for because I changed one on my previous 53 plate C5)

Is it a different module on the newer model, and/or in a different place?
