C5 Rear Suspension failure

Post by PatriciaC5 »

We have just purchased a 3 year old C5 Exclusive Tourer with the hydropneumatic suspension. At first all seemed well however after a week of driving the rear suspension started going down suddenly and quickly then automatically pumping itself up again whilst driving. It sometimes does it whilst at a stand but most frequently whilst driving, speed doesn't seem to matter.

The garage checked the systems and found it needed a possible change to the fuse box, this has been done along with another change but the problem still exists. Various checks have been made, the systems say nothing is wrong but it still happens. Citroen are saying that this problem has never been reported before, has anyone experienced anything like this?

Sounds to me like the rear height sensor has gone.

Yes, almost certainly an electronics issue, we have exactly the same model & it's an electronic nightmare !

Current problem is that the elec tailgate won't operate after more than a minute or two after switch-off - thankfully it's under warranty !

Some years ago it was found that mobile phones would set off the airbags on Mercs. Mercedes also said they'd never known this to happen, but a dealer when asked said 'oh yeah, they're always doing that !'

Hi, there is an electronic sensor/switch situated in the center of the rear of the car, this has a linkage to the anti roll bar,try cleaning with switch cleaner & or WD40 or similar. Be careful whilst you are laid under the car it may sit down on you.
