CX engine family VS XU engine family

Post by nametooshort »

Hello people.

So I was talking to someone about an old CX engine I found, and they said that the CX 2.0 and 2.2 gas engine (I am not sure what the correct name for it is, so for now I am referring to it just as 'CX', as I have seen others on here refer to it) and the XU engines share a common ancestor, and therefore have a few things in common, most significantly the bell housing (so a CX will bolt up to a XU transmission, and vice versa).

Can anybody here either confirm or deny this? Unfortunately I can't check for myself because my stash of XUD stuff and this CX engine that i found are in different locations.

Also, just to confirm, is that 2.0/2.2 engine just called the CX engine? Or is there another more correct name for it? I think it was used on CXs and in the first generation of the Ducato/Boxer/derivitives. Also, was there a 1.8 version also? Or is that another different engine family?

Thanks

Have a look at Generation CX - there's wealth of knowledge about the CX there:

The ones that they state as "PRV" are usually called the "Douvrin" engine IIRC.

No CX was fitted with a 1.8.

Here's a list on engine types for info:

2.0 L (1965 cc) I4
2.0 L (1995 cc) Douvrin I4
2.2 L (2165 cc) Douvrin I4
2.2 L (2175 cc) I4
2.4 L (2347 cc) carburetted I4
2.4 L (2347 cc) fuel-injected I4
2.5 L (2499 cc) fuel-injected I4
2.5 L (2499 cc) fuel-injected I4 with turbocharger
2.5 L (2499 cc) fuel-injected I4 with turbocharger and intercooler
2.2 L (2200 cc) diesel I4
2.5 L (2500 cc) diesel I4 75 bhp
2.5 L (2500 cc) diesel I4 with turbocharger 95 bhp
2.5 L (2500 cc) diesel I4 with turbocharger and intercooler 120 bhp

The 2.0 and 2.2 engines are belt driven OHC engines..

The 2.4 and 2.5 lumps are Chain, OHV engines..

Im led to beleve that NONE of these engines are XU related! Certainly not the OHV engines..

The CX family of engines ALL mounted leaning forward, making everything on the back of the engine a little easyer to work on.. where as the XU and D family of engines are all rear ward leaning, making any work on the back of the engine a bit of an arse to work on....
