Hi,
My AX 1.5D speedo is sticking at 0.
I only to tap the dash VERY lightly to get it moving again.
It doesn't matter if I drive over rumble strips that shake the car to near death.... just the little tap will do.
I took out the instrument cluster and put some oil on the spindle, but it stuck again, although I think it was slightly better.
I tried to stop it getting to 0 by bodging it and putting blue tack over the 0 stop pin so it can't get below 10 but that doesn't seem to have worked either, but I have to do some more tests.
Anyway, the car MOT is tonight and I'm wondering is there anything else obvious I can do in the hour or so I will have to fiddle with it?
I'm sure it will fail on other things but I would like this sorted.
Thanks.

Is it an electronic speedo or does it have a cable? If the former you probably have a bad connection on the printed circuit board in the instrument panel. Check the edge connectors on the board for cracks in the solder.

Hi,
It's electrical.
When I open the instrument cluster there is a flexible (like paper) plastic circuit board covering the back.
I can see a hard circuit board for the speedo in the speedo unit but it would take more work to get at that.
Which do you mean?
I have fixed dry solder joints for speedo's before, on my old Xantia, so I am not against giving it a go....

Certainly give it a go and also be aware that Saxo speedos are a very easy swap as well

I took it apart this evening and noticed crazy paving on a solder joint and messed around with it. Soldering isn't my strong point.
Thought I made a mess of it but it works!
Same job as I had to do on my Xantia... hmmm...
Thanks!

Well done. Just apply the iron to the joint, run the solder on then immediately remove the iron, doesn't dry the flux out then.
