Xsara 1.6HDi DMF problem?

Post by pastyman »

Hello all. I have just bought a Picasso 1.6HDi 04 reg with 67k. There is a moderate 'squeel' when pulling away in low gear. It sounds aux belt like. However local garage says that all belts are fine. They suggested it is poss a Dual Mass Flywheel problem. I am not so sure as i didn't think this would squeel.

Any help would be fantastic please. Many thanks.

they can make squeeling noise when they are on the way out but can go on for many miles like this so dont worry too much.

it may also be the trust bearing but i doubt it.

just keep driving it until it drives you mad - you are looking at a new dmf and clutch kit to sort it.

Thanks for the replies gents. Got the DMF replaced. However..... Post replacement I can't start the car. It appears to be stuck in Economy Mode. It turns over but doesn't fire. It also makes strange electronic noises and beeps.

The voltage at all earths is 6.5 which is odd I think.

Not sure if the electrics have somehow been fried or the immobiliser is playing tricks?

The fella who did it for me is hard to track down (a long story). He insists he had it running post an initial immobiliser faff.

Very easy to fry the ECU on a Picasso, as most garages disconnect the live lead next to the ECU, one touch and it's a goner, the battery is a little inaccessible under the seat, but worth the effort to save this issue.

There's more than one earth attached to the gearbox. As well as the the main earth lead there's normally two little green/yellow leads hidden round by the gearchange cables. If these are not on (or tight) then the engine will turn over but not run. Quite easy to check.
