Over Heating!!

Post by gaz black »

Can anyone help me please.
the past month i have had a problem with the anti pollution fault! then last week when driving to scotland i got stuck in traffic and started over heating.
anyway it happened again today this time i read a few posts on here.
And ive tracked it down to the 50 amp fuse has gone?
Any ideas would be a great help. i tried spinning the fan by hand and it was a bit stiff and making a grinding noise like dirt stuck in bearings is it maybe the fan thats gone?

Thanks Gaz

If the fan is difficult to turn that's probably why the fuse has gone, its unusual for the bearings to fail but not impossible. You don't say what the car is but if its old enough I would get another fan motor from the breakers.

Hi peter thanks for the response.
its a 2004 2.0 HDI 110 vtr estate model but i have done 320000 miles so plenty of wear on the fan. (2000 of that is the past 2 weeks)
Thanks again

I would think thats about the problem then, should be plenty of scrappers around. How about this one :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-2- ... 2a1fd7960f" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have just been looking at an executive with 320,000 miles.

Already watching that 1 Peter :)
i have taken the bumper off to have a look and it spins half way then i need to force it the rest of the way round.
had to replace washer pump anyway and it takes 2 mins to get it off.
i dont think miles mater on these cars.. apart from the few minor problems ive had it still starts 1st time in any weather and is as smooth as the day it was built :)

Thanks again for the info Peter i will post on here the out come.

Ok then new fan arrived yesterday so swapped old for new and replaced the fuse. So now the fan is working and no over heating so far :) and extra bonus the air con is now working too ( thought it needed re gassing)
happy days hopefully the beast will get to 400.000 miles just needs a service now.
thanks again peter.
