C5 estate 110hdi mk1

Post by StevieOMG »

Okay, i have significant wheel vibration and can feel every pothole in the road. Over the last couple of weeks i have replaced, pads and disks, track rod ends, drop links and tyres. Tracking has been done and wheels balanced. Centresless wheels but properly balanced as had to take to three diferrent places. Have also topped up the LDS. All of this has helped reduce the vibration but not eliminate. Vibration is at all speeds and can be felt both through the steering wheel and floor. Anyone got any ideas. Next will be to replace spheres but dont want to this if it is unecessary.

Do you mean vibration as in wheel wobble or as in hard ride.

Has the car always done this in your ownership?

It could be a bent/distored wheel, ive even had distorted tyres giving a similar thing.

It could possibly be engine mounts.

Maybe worth checking steering and suspension bushes too.

It should not be spheres though.

Does the vibration get worse as you drive faster?

Definitely not a wheel as have tried with two sets and stiil the same. Vibration is consistent irrespective of speed. Has only happened over recent months. Car had done 123k and ive had it (the car) for over six years. Will now check both steering, suspension bushes and engine mounts. When touching the steering wheels with just fingers you can feel the twitch.

If the vibration is definitly related to road speed it can only be caused by an imbalance, either due to unbalanced wheels, a faulty tyre or a drive shaft joint or o/s shaft centre bearing or possibly a bent shaft - very unlikely I would have thought. I did have a CX that developed a vibration which was only really noticable on a long journey when it was hot, that turned out to be worn inner drive shaft joints, when the grease got hot and thin it allowed the joints to slop about. Does it vary with the ammount of load i.e. throttle opening and does it change on overun?
