timing sounds about right there Sean..

I think they switch off at 60°C / or when throttle is beyond about 40%

The post heating is mostly controlled by the load lever on the pump.

If you can, unplug the microswitch on the pump temporarily. This controls (varies on model) the EGR, the post heating (as its shut off once the control arm is open a few mm) and / or the timing advance solenoid but this last item is also controlled in some cases by a switch on the waxstat cable.

I'm just thinking that the microswitch may be shorted and seems the easy test method to unplug it, if practical. It would probably be fine without it anyway...

if the timmer is working correctly now, you might find the link lead between the glow plugs has got heat damage in the crimpt terminals, this will give a bad connection so will cause the cabl;e to get hot, as it cant pass enough current
