rear tyre wear
Hi, just removed the rear wheels from my series 1 Xantia, both tyres have worn on the inside edge. they have been on the car about two years . I tried to move the wheels to see if there was any bearing wear, but they were both ok.. any body got any ideas, cheers Terry .

Possibly rear arm bearings as you are at 171K miles are the rear wheels doing the classic Citroen / \ when viewed from the rear?

Yep I'd def agree. Easy to spot if you look at the car from the rear at a distance. Mine are going to need done too although so far my tyres are OK.

Just had one of mine done, other than the horrible noise everything looked fine , no leaning in at the top no uneven tyre wear but changing them stopped the noise.

Is there, "a how to change rear trailing arm bearings", for a Xantia.Found one on B.X. would it be the same?

Yep basically the same. Its a long time since I did a BX but I think the main difference is that on the Xantia the rear suspension cylinders have to come off.
If you can disconnect the ABS sensor at the connector on the top of the subframe and leave it in the arm you are less likely to wreck it trying to get them out of the arm seems to upset them. Makes the job twice as expensive if you end up having to buy 2 new sensors. Its a bit awkward but you are going to have to do it anyway if you have to replace them. I tie a bit of string to the connector when I pull the wire back through the subframe to get the arm off, makes it easier to pull it back through.
There are a few threads on here about running a bead of weld round the bearing race to help get them out. Job can still be done without, but is so much easier if you have access to a welder.
