Zx Wet Carpet

Post by caspar »

Hi, my 1992 ZX 1.9D is getting rain water in the drivers side footwell. The water is usually under the carpet rather than on the carpet so I think it must be coming down from under the pedals from the bulkhead area.
I tried sealing the aeriel as this leaked on my old 106 but no improvement.
The car has a tilt and slide sunroof, could this be the culprit?
Or somewhere down by the wiper motor screen wash bottle area?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

to test if the sun roof drains are clear open the roof fully, pour water into the gully in the roof aperture, then whatch if you get water running out at all four drain tubes,
not sure exactly were they terminate on the ZX but usually the rears come out behind the rear lights, anf the fronts inside the bottom of the A pillars, you gain access to these behind the side trims in the front foot wells,

the ZX also suffers with tin worm in the scuttle

I had this on my zx and I could not find it until I striped the seats and carpet out! I then lay in the foot well and had someone put the hose on the car believe it or not mine was leaking where the bulkhead is spot welded to a box section half way down. There was a slight imperfection in the spot welding and it had buckled the plate at the box section leaving a small gap but it was flooding in there. The repair I came up with was to put some roofing flash banding over that spot and all was dry.

Thanks for the suggestions.
After some time this morning with a hose it seems to be dripping down behind the dash near the relays.
I suspect the windsreen rubber seal and will try to re-seal it.
What's the best sealant to use for this?
Thanks.
