zx td clutch cable

Post by tony1961 »

Hi there, Since i got the car around march this year, the gear selection has been (sometimes) a bit hard to engage. it goes in but crunches, or at times seems notchy, stood still and selecting reverse or first gear, the clutch dosent slip. Any way driving home from work on saturday approaching lights slowed down, pressed clutch pedal down it stayed down car still in gear, (managed to stop it stalled it).Got it Home via RAC, found that the white plastic connector, clutch pedal to cable had split. Can you just buy the plastic bit, local motor factors says it comes with cable only.
Citroen say no longer available.
Can any one advise if it needs new clutch Kind Regards Tony.

If its a 306 design of cable its a cable you need, I know what you mean via the white clip though, 405's had these too. As far as I'm aware (Info needed please from the Citroën experts) only the 405 and Xantia had these clips, a connector in effect between pedal and cable. It usually broke before the cable did.

I'd go and see what a new cable comes with, I'd expect it to not have a clip as a separate item simply as 306's did not and they are more or less the same car.

On a positive note its quite straightforward to fit (not as straighforward as a LHD one, talk about short cables!) but reasonably easy, if you have aircon and it goes "between the pipes" you can unbolt the bracket and this does with care allow the pipes to move a few mm, not much but enough.

I have changed one of these on a '97 estate and I'm pretty sure the cable was all in one peice.
