Around 2005 or so I looked after two 406's both 110's and both were high miles, I do remember one was at about 250k back then...

Believe me, I am still watching. I wondered if an early Xantia would be a good doner car? It's the electronics that stop me thinking too deeply about this. I don't know enough about how the HDi ties in with other systems and how standalone the EMU is or isn't.

135BHP of HDi goodness in a S1 XM, now that's tempting.

I wasn't impressed until I bought one but although the build quality doesn't look as good as the XM's they are very quiet and rattle free. After 15 years of running almost exclusivly XMs and covering literally hundreds of thousands of miles in them I wasn't keen on changing but as they were falling apart I had no option and am pleasantly surprised with the C5.

If you want a modern estate car with a hydropnumatic ride you have no option but to buy one. They are so cheap at the moment that you can afford to throw one away if it goes seriously wrong and buy another - that's what I did with XMs until the started getting scarce, then I had to repair them.

The 406 is nice to drive but it doesn't have the C5 ride, nothing with springs does, or at least not that I have found.

That's one hell of a price to pay for hydropneumatic suspension!

C'mon Steve if you are going to do it do it in style, find a 2.2 173 bhp and put that in that would be a truly great XM. Electronically? I don't think that you would need more than the injection ECU and the BSI, plus the under bonnet looms. the throttle pedal would need a bit of work to get the electronic throttle box in place, ah and then there is the lift pump to consider, I wouldn't let the electronics stop me if I had the enthusiasm and facilitys, might actually be the easiest part of the conversion, I mean finding room for the FAP underneath might be a bit problamatical/........... The xantia 2.0 8v does not have a bsi.. and has nothing inside the car related to the running out of the ordinary..

theres tooooo much on a 2.2 to swap over anyway and you would also have to plumb in the eyloys fluid tank..

as for fuel lift pump.. convert a petrol xm and the lift pump is already plumbd in for you...

anyway.. im gonna stop now. looks like someone might "steal" my project...
