Halfords guy told me to get Mobil as it is good (and cheaper) but as they no longer stock the one i needed he suggested i look locally. Thing is there is nowt locally. I would get total 9000(or is it 7000) in leclerc for 26 euros soon but like engine oil changed prior to trip.
Only have halfords here. I have used their own fully synthetic before but what is your opinion of it?
Also replacing, oil and filters but what else should I check? Treat it like a service.

As long as it meets the spec for the car it should be perfectly OK. I run mine on Comma semi synthetic oil about £13.00 for 5 litres, no problems, used it for years.

What car/engine is it? DPF filter?
Try nielsencdg.co.uk, they have a full range of very well priced engine oils, including Total Quartz 9000 for £20 (5l) plus delivery.

2ltr 100bhp HDi LX is the car.
I was told by the Halfords guy it was made by BP.
INcidentally it's around 38 quid for 5 litres fully synthetic. Next to your £15 for 5ltrs that seem expensive. Apart from a neighbourhood small Halfords and a small (an expensive car accessories shop) there are only dealers and they charge a fortune. Nowhere else that can have access to unless someone can help me out witrh Dingbro (I tried to wrangle my way in there once over the phone. "yeah I'm a mate of blah blah can I order..." "Nope...bugger off")

Boris If you can get to Westhill to Costco, they do Mobil1 Diesel 0w40 for about £26 inc... Halfrauds Inverurie is about £48.
Don't know if you've got a Costco nearer.. maybe Dundee?

Buy any main brand oil, especially from Halfords and you are paying too much. Have been using Morris in mine for years, no problems at all. Cheap as chips, especially in 25 ltr drums. Morris is a quality product but they don't spend fortunes on advertising and marketing , so their prices are much lower. My tip is to buy from a local motor factor.
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec

Never heard of Morris. Just used Halfords own. Local shop has comma but dear.
No Costco in Dundee. Have a card but never use it. To much hassle to get to westhill. I used to run up and dow to Hazlehead for work. May go to Makro in Aberdeen Friday to have look.

Morris's or Comma every time, both cheap both good.

Re: Halfords fully synthetic for diesel. Any good?
Makro are poor for that. You only need a 10w 40 semi synth for that engine.
GSF sell Fuchs for about 14quid all up (5ltre). Partco do similar. Fully synth is ott in that engine. Miller oil tech told me so theirselves and my oil was analysed regular by them.
For me? Arnold Clark trade were doing 10w40 semi synth.........30 quid for 25 litres. Q8 or summat but same api no as Castrol et all
