2.0 HDI Xantia passed its MOT at last!

Post by Stepto1 »

Right, she's got a ticket and back on the road.

New crankshaft pully has made it much quieter

All new rear brake pipes. They don't look pretty but do the job.

All I need to do now is sort out the cooling fans for the rad.

Voltage is there, the fans don't turn. Which fans will fit a 2.0 HDI 110? Plenty for sale on eBay.

Kind regards,
Steve.

Erm? Without the fans running she gets hot enough!

Temperature is fine on the road but gets a little hot when stuck in traffic.

She runs really cool. I've been concerned about that in the past. It has to be very warm to get her hot.

Found some fan motors on eBay but have no idea if they are the right ones.

If it runs cool, then it needs a new stat - they should get up to 90 normal running, but it takes a while on a cool day! 1st fan speed is not till 100C - high speed is 110 or something (only seen this once, putting the AC on on a hot day). Have you actually got it hot enough to get the fans on to prove they don't work? You should get full time low speed if the AC is on.

I did have a look on service.citroen at fan motors, but there are loads! It looks like HDI 110s are fitted with high power motors, but I would think unless you are going to tow a caravan to Spain in the summer, an ordinary 200W one would be good enough in the UK!

Thanks Richard, that's what I thought.

The fans never come one, even when the ac is on. I've changed the three relays and no better.

Figured any fans that fit would do. It nearly manages as it is.

ok should have been alright

although if the MOT tester got her up to full running temperature as he is meant to to get the correct result from the emission test, this in turn should have required the fans to cut in,

By the time the fans cut in Malcolm, the car would be due another MOT!!! You can grow very old indeed waiting for HDi fans to cut in.

Mine in the recent very hot weather never even edged above normal running temperature, not once. The fans on an HDi are there for the aircon and nothing more...

Agreed yours needs a new 'stat though Steptoe. They should get to normal running temperature of just below 90 when on the move and after about four miles from cold on a reasonably warm day...

I would imagine because they see so little use. That's if you don't use the aircon very much. Apart from a (very) few warm days they are a bit of an ornament in the UK :(

If the aircon is heavily used then they should be as good as any other Xantia fan-wise...

Every time I use my A/C I get treated to a flashing dashboard display of high temp warnings.

The fans are duff so I'll try to replace the motors.

Although, it's come nowhere close to overheating yet.

As I recall, the thermostat only helps it to warm up over winter months, it will do bugger all over the summer months?

if the thermostat did not open the coolant would stay in the block so this would certainly cause it to over heat, even if its a HDI
