New MAP sensor hasn't solved it. The engine still misfires daily. New lambda sensor(s) is next!

You dont have to buy a new lambda sensor, there is a simple, very simple test! Unplug connector from lambda sensor befor catalytic converter and take it to a ride. If the problem doesn`t go away then your lambda sensor is fine!

This is based on my experience with the first car, a c5 2.0 petrol 2005.

I thought the car would go into limp home mode if I did this?

not a chance, is not a diesel
you`ll get error still, like antipolution system faulty which is safe to ignore...
without lambda sensor will work on a internal map ecu without misfires if your lambda sensor is defective.

Update: tried removing the pre-cat lambda sensor and the car still misfired. Removed both the pre and post cat sensors and the car didn't misfire, it just reported the error that the sensors were unplugged - so 2 new sensors are in the post and I'll report back after running them for a couple of days.
