Xantia week coming

Post by RichardW »

SWMBO is away next week, so I have the opportunity to work on the Xantia whilst I use the C4GP.

First up is the rear brakes.
Then swap the tyres round.
Depending on how the brakes go, move forwards and possibly time for:
LHM Change
Precautionary change of anti-sink valve o-ring
Investigate turbo noise - either a boost leak of the turbo is throwing in the towel (I hope not....)
Oil change
Air filter
Pollen filter
Strip and clean indicator switch
Clocks out to rectify speedo problems
Front spheres
If it goes really well, and the weather is nice, I might drop the front arms off and tackle the bushes, along with a new NS drop link.

Either be like a new car, or it will take a strop and just break all the time after all the attenion. Or the rear brakes will be an epic phail and it will off to be bean tins!

Just curiously, whats your speedo issue you have?? If its an erractic needle, have you tried swapping the speed sensor in the gearbox first??

Remember to REMOVE the rear calipers to clean up any alloy corrosion that may be there, and grease the mateing faces up..

Cheers Paul

Speedo: It likes to read 50 mph regardless of the speed you are doing. Has done so since I've had the car. Odo reading is fine, so it's a fault with the speedo - most likely poor contact between the pins on the board and the speedo head.

Brakes: Oh yes, I know all about that - the calipers are well rubbing on the discs, hence the reticence to tackle them, and the possbility of it turning into an extended event with snapped bolts / pipes etc! I have new bolts and pads on hands. Think the discs are serviceable, but we shall see. AFAIK these are the original pads - at 130k!

Richard,

Re the rear brakes, I had to order a re con unit as one of mine gave up the ghost due the heat :( from this company:

http://www.brakesint.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

in total cost £107 inclusive. There is surcharge of £24 which is returned on them receiving the old unit if not damaged. The site explains what's what.

If you need a pair of hands let me know.

I always thought you had a Chapron-bodied Citroën that needed welding.
