hi all,
i have a 2000 xreg citroen relay 1.9d,
theres nothing wrong with it apart from it being the slowest diesel ive ever owned.!
flat out it does nearly 70mph!
it'll take a day to get there too, its that slow!!!
due to it being a non turbo im stuffed for tuning.
any ideas out there?
i was considering just changing the gearbox but i want/need more power....
i also have a 2002 51 plate peugeot 406 2.2hdi coupe.
this is a nice car, its good on fuel, fast and a comfy drive.
im thinking of using the engine & gearbox and anything else from the 406 to fit into the van, can anybody tell me if its a do-able thing?
i havent started the project yet as i want feedback if it will work?
ie; wirelooms, driveshafts, gearbox,mounts,ecus, etc,etc.
anyone with info please help me?...
i was even considering buying a damaged 406 2.0hdi as i was told that these run the same engine &
gearbox setups, but im wondering if the wiring is going to be a nightmare!
i need the van most weekends ( track day thing! )
so im unable to try parts first, in other words it has to fit and work straight away.
ive spent years modding cars, so im no noobie to this.
( i used to fit diesels to mk1/2 escorts,granada consuls from 1996 onwards )...
please someone out there must have thought the same thoughts too.....

Re: Citroën relay engine & gearbox swaps
I used to do a lot of diesel conversions many years ago using mainly Perkins 4/108 engines but things were very different then, virtually no electrics let alone electronics, not even a fuel solonoid. Your easiest route would be to fit a 1.9 td engine it should match up with practically everything, if you get an early one with a fully mechanical pump you have no electronics at all. If you want more power you could fit a 2.1td from an XM if it will go in. Unless you are into electronics or know someone who is, I wouldn't try fitting an Hdi - I was an electronics engineer for 50 years and I wouldn't.

I agree with Peter, stick with a 1.9TD with a mechanical diesel pump or a 2.1 TD if you can get one.
