C5 Automatic problem - maybe?

Post by colchesterguide »

Hi, I had a problem starting my C5 a few nights ago - came up with anti-theft device fault. I disconnected the battery and waited for 10 mins or so then reconnected and tried again. The engine started OK but then the car wouldn't go into gear - park released when I pressed the brake but it wouldn't go past reverse. I left it overnight and tried next morning but still wouldn't engage gear. Then tried again at lunchtime and it started and went into gear straight away! I've noticed the car has been taking a longer time to fire up recently as it used to start as soon as I turned the key but now turns over about 6-8 times before it fires. Also the gear now seems to drop into manual mode unless I'm careful to push it to the right when engaging drive. My question is do these problems sound related or are they different faults?

Also my wiper blade always now comes to rest vertically - is this an electrical issue or mechanical?

How good is your battery? all these faults could be explained by marginal electrical power.

Hadn't even thought of something as basic as that. I've had the same battery since I bought it about 3 years ago. How could I test for certain before buying a new one that it is the battery?

First thing in the morning before you start the engine measure the battery volts anything less than 12.5 volts is suspect 12.0 or less is bad. Switch the lights on blower at max check volts again should be at least 12.0v Engine running volts should be about 14.0v
