xantia heater / blower, slightly different problem

Post by palmtree »

hi all ,
got in my 2001 xantia the other morning to find the blower on almost full blast, no amount of lever moving makes any difference, i have read through the common faults list/fix, but all of these are for heaters with no power !,
i pulled the fuse out to stop the fan , i put a couple of electrical spades with wire attatched to a switch (worked fine) but as i was going to leave the car i felt the wire and it was very hot, suppose i will have to get something heavier than speaker wire ?
any advice appreciated

It sounds like the transistors are gone and the heater blower is working at full speed mode.
If you're DIY skills with some basic soldering then you can fix it yourself.
Otherwise you can buy (ex. ebay - search for heater blower control module) and replace the control module.

Also you can search for FCF for more information with words:
- Heater blower
- Darlington transistors / transistors

I had exactly this problem on my 2000 Xantia Hdi and bought a replacement control resistor which cost me about 30 quid from memory, dead simple job

I have no affiliation, but this is an example for under £20 off ebay

The heater blower draws 10A on full blast, you're right that speaker wire won't hack it
