Xantia Mk1 one side indicators stay on when alarm set

Post by Xaccers »

Noticed a couple of times with Cassy when I set the alarm/deadlock with the remote, the indicators come on for a second or so to show it's set, but then the passenger side remains on.
If I unlock and re-lock it's fine.
Must be a dodgy earth, but has anyone had this before?

Sounds like a problem with the alarm box under the N/S/F seat (seat out for access), it's worth checking for dampness under there as that causes havoc with the alarm box.

It might be worth getting the car plugged into a Lexia to see if anything is recorded plus you can carry out a few actuator tests which may reveal a clue or two.

I'll talk nicely to Jim for the weekend after next (I think we may be tackling Cassy's aircon compressor bearing then).

I'd concur, it is highly likely the alarm control box. This was not uncommon on early 306's too. Everything worked remote wise but one side indicator would stay alight. :D , a new box was about £200 if I remember correctly, there's was located under the right hand front seat.

I never managed to obtain one to examine it to see why it had failed and if it could be repaired, possibly a failed transistor or something simple.

Does it just control the alarm, or does it handle the remote central locking/dead locking too?

I'm pretty sure it's just the alarm as the central locking is handled byt the lovely box by the hanbrake. as for the remote, not sure, pass, unplug it and see :)

In my experience on a 306 at least, if you unplug it (you have to join a couple of wires in the plug as the starter relay feed goes though it too) the remote locking still works.

The indicators do not light when you lock / unlock and you are unable to initialise / resync any remote keys though (I think)

You can unplug the alarm box without issue on a MK1 except...

You'll loose your interior lights as the box also controls their dim-down function...

Yes! I thought I was the only one.. I found that opening and re closing the locks solved it -at first- then after it returned some weeks later the near side indicators all stayed on permanently (even after switching off the engine and locking up)and I could no longer signal left. The only (temporary) solution was to switch off the alarm then pull out the alarm fuse whereupon the indicators all went off but functioned normally upon restarting. Even after a fortnight, putting the alarm fuse back in brought the LH indicators back on.
