What's this thing under the bonnet of the estate?

You can pull the cap off this thing, and it looks like you can put a key in there, but what the heck for? It's located on the near side at the back of the engine bay.

I concur, tis the alarm silencer. I don't think it kills the alarm just the noise. The lights will still flash etc.

I seem to remember the key is different so you may not have one, but no matter really. The Peugeots tend to have them at the front near the slam panel area opposed to near the bulkhead.

just to help spider its the same key as the ignition key.. most sirens have packed up on s1 cars.. well the ones ive had have never sounded when going off even after messing with that switch.

I have a feeling it's not key specific, so any key should do it.

I do remember the 306 ones had a different key to the normal key for the car, some early ones at least. Was easier to chop the wiring but as said the backup batteries have long since died in most cases.

all the ones i have seen on XANT's have been the same key/cut as the ignition key,
