Xantia aux belt tensioner inner race stuck in bracket
The inner race of Jenny's aux tensioner is stuck in the engine, anyone had experience of getting one out before?

What do you mean by stuck in the engine, has part of it dropped off or you are having trouble getting the whole assembly out?

Re: Xantia aux belt tensioner inner race stuck in bracket
The inner race of the auto tensioner sticks out the engine side of the tensioner, it sits in a recess in the aux carrier frame (which holds the alternator, a/c etc).
When the needle rollers die often the inner race separates and gets left behind in the carrier.
All the ones I've done before I've just been able to wiggle it free with grips but this one is good and stuck.

Ahhhh Sorry Xac, when you called me you woke me up. I dozed off in front of my laptop and was dozy when I was speaking to you..
Now I understand... I think what you need is a tool to get hold of it and grip it. I may have a reverse-flute socket that might get a hold of it and then you should be able to give it a turn and then it should come away. I've got a tube from one of those in the workshop[p as I kept it thinking it might come in useful for something one day. Now it has
I'm just thinking what else I might have that will see it out and free...
Give me a call in the morning...

Thanks Jim.
Goodness knows how long it's been on there, I don't think I've ever seen a rusted brown one before!

Re: Xantia aux belt tensioner inner race stuck in bracket
I'd use a combination of a decent length pry bar behind it to lever it out in combination with sliding a Irwin bolt grip over the top of what's left behind. I don't suppose you can get a bearing puller in there if you raise or lower the engine can you?

Might be worth trying to drill a hole in the side to make a groove for the pry bar Richard
Otherwise if I can find a suitable threaded rod to jam in there and use it to make up an improvised extractor.

Re: Xantia aux belt tensioner inner race stuck in bracket
It's probably worth biting the bullet and removing the HP pump and alternator, then taking the bracket off. Although it seems like the long way, I suspect in the end it will take no longer (unless the bush happens to jump off at the next asking - could you get some heat on it?), and be less frustrating!
