Finally fixed it.

Post by MonkeyMark »

Well i knew water was getting into my drivers footwell, and guessed it would be fromt he rear washer pipe. I was correct.

I thought it must have split, but infact someone had done a rather bad job or connecting it (guess they took out a 1 way valve or something) with tape

The carpet was much much wetter than i had expected. It was pretty much swimming in the footwell and cable trays and had been for some time by the looks of it. One of the strut bars (if thats what they are called) under the dash had a lot of surface rust so that was cleaned and then treated.

Left the carpet up for two days and its dry now. The water had got as far back as the handbrake which caused the "handbrake on" light to come on randomly and the passenger airbag to swith on and off all the time. Both seem to have stopped now.

Time to move on to another couple of niggles.

Just thought id share my small success! 8-)

It's good when you trace a fault and fix it yourself, glad you got it sorted.

What car you got?
Volvo S80 D5.........
C5 2.2HDi Exclusive 2003 manual (now gone).
2009 Renault Megane, the misses drive.
Had a 1988 BX 19TRS Auto many moons ago.
Forgive any spelling mistakes, it's the phone not me.

Need a drivers side door rubber and door catch.

Other than that it seems to be in great condition.

Ok, so I THOUGHT i'd fixed it!

The washer pipe is now fine, but upon inspection, the floor is soaking again.

I left it running for a while with air con on to see it that was leaking but it seamed fine.
The wetest part now seems to be around the hand brake lever.

I'm wondering if its coming in around the door seal or if the drains in the door (if it has them) could be blocked causing it to over flow inwards.
It seemed to be after we had some heavy rain.

Any known issues that could be causing this?
