Rear wiper with a mind of its own

Post by johntom »

Hi
I have just got a 2003 Picasso with a strange rear wiper issue. When you unlock and open a door sometimes the rear wiper starts to move accross the rear screen a few times (usually it's doesn't return to the park position)? Sometimes it moves a cross 2-3 times when locking? If you turn the wiper on from the stalk, again you can usually hear the relay click before the wiper is in the park position leaving it in the middle of the screen.
Any ideas?

It sounds like the the rear wiper motor is energized due to a worn cable shield.
Most common places are inside outlet (car body and tail gate/doors).
Once a car in front of me (non Citroen :) ) started signaling right turn and at the
same time the rear wipers started

Here's a message I've sent related to the solution of rear wiper problem in my Xantia.
It might be interesting to see inside mechanism of the motor:

I had a similar problem on my first Berlingo Multispace which I'd bought new, at random intervals when unlocking the rear wiper would do a complete wipe stroke. A couple of dealers looked at it but gave up with a French shrug, it was put down to the joys of French Multiplex wiring
