Anyone fitted a tuning box to a 2.2Hdi C5?

Post by Peter.N. »

I know everyone says have a proper remap but that will cost more than I paid for the car. These box manufacturers claim inproved fuel consumption and that's all I am looking for, has anyone fitted one and found it improved the mpg?

I've had boxes on loads of cars in the past, I had a Powerklick box on a 2.2 C5 and it was OK, a bit more top end, but hardly any midrange performance difference. My favourite so far, although I haven't specifically tried it on a 2.2 C5 (it is currently fitted to my C8 2.0 HDi) has been my Bluespark Automotive chip tuning box. The C8 is the third car I've had it on (I've had it reprogrammed twice) and consistently it has improved the MPG and power output of each car, particularly midrange grunt.

I don't know how long it would take to get the payback if you are solely looking for MPG though, you aren't talking a huge change, only maybe 3-4 MPG, so it might take quite a long time to pay back your £150, depending on how many miles you do I guess.

Ive got a box on my 2.0 HDi Xantia Peter.. Performance.. WOW Yes amazing! I took a short video the other night with my speedo right round at, well lets say a VERY high speed!

As for MPG, well the extra performance has NOT blunted the MPG at all... I average 42 mpg, but I have to say with the in gear pull and perforamce sooo good, I cant be light footed.. its too much fun.

Well that really answers my question Paul, if you can thrash it and still get the same mpg, the way I drive it should be much better. I used to thrash cars in my youth - but I've got over it now :-D

Now Now, lets get this right! I dont thrash her! I USE the torque, when shes bang on I use full throttle.. Theres no need to thrash DERV's and no use going over 3 to 3500 RPM...

I had a quiet stretch of road, and just wanted to see what she would still do, even at what I was dooing she was only showing 4500rpm...

With a slipping clutch that could be around 50mph then

No, seriously, that must be getting on for quite an impressive speed

I've got one on my 2.2HDi, i've found it gives more welly but fuel economy around town is identical as before, motorways miles however show a great improvement, typically mid 40's before, now upto 60mpg if i stay at 60mph.

SaabC5, which tuning box have you got on your 2.2? As they seem to differ?

bear in mind that if you're working out fuel consumption from the trip computer it'll be wrong as it won't be able to take into account the extra fuel injected due to the higher pressures

You'll need to establish whether you have a Bosch or Siemens engine management system, if you take off the engine cover look at the top of the injectors and see if there's a rubber pipe connecting all 4 injectors. If theres a connecting pipe you have Bosch, no pipes = Siemens.
