There are two variants of cruise ECU and both have very slightly different pinouts.. The two variants can be identified by one being short and stubby and the other somewhat longer.

I published a guide to cruise problem diagnosis here:

viewtopic.php?t=33767

That article also mentions the pinout differences in the two ECUs...

That may well help you to determine the cause of your problems.

Jim.. hdi cruise is built into the ecu...

The ecu used is the one i had in my own hdi and it worked.. what we are a little unsure of is the pin outs on the cruise lever in the steering colum..

Its a genuine cruise lever which also worked on my car..

I noticed the pin id on the brown plug doesnt actually corresponde to the correct positions on the wiring diagram and i cant remember them off my head..

The pins on the brown plug can be seen in the Jim's diagram from Xantia - http://www.eastment.net/XanWD/mk2cruisecct.jpg
The plug is different from the one in 406.

Ahhh.. that is different...

That diagram STILL doesnt say where they go into the hdi ecu. . So i need to cross refer jims lever pin out to the hdi pin inputs... thats what we need to know for sure..
