Citroen C2 2007 not sure what engine sizes there is any help

Post by RLRowland »

hey guys, before i post i know nothing about cars..

My girlfriend recently went to purchase a car , it was supposebly a Citroen c2 1.2l 2007 model with 35 thousand mile on the clock and only one owner , we've come home as the car has to be picked up from anothe garage my two questions are..

Is there actualy a 1.2l version of this model of car ? because i cant find one on the internet only a 1.1i and they said it was a 1.2

And is £5,500,00 more than this car is worth ? it seems looking at private sellers its possible to get a similar year registration with a 1.6 for maybe even less than 5.5 thousand.

Any advise would be appreciated , i know you guys are normaly answering much more interesting questions :) but this is mine thanks alot.

Welcome :-D And no worries at all on the question, any question is good and this is a good one...

As far as I can tell, and I'm not hot on the C2 but it'll have the TU engine. According to my quick research the following engines were fitted:

1124cc (1.1 - TU1), 1360cc (1.4 - TU3 and later ET3) and 1587cc (1.6 - TU5)

The TU2 (1294cc) and TU9 (954cc) were never fitted to the C2 as far as I can tell...

I'm sorry I can't help on the going rate for a C2...

Thanks alot they advertised it as a 1.2l engine , my girlfriend currently has a 1.2 renault clio 16v with the exact same 1124cc so the engine sizes are exactly the same ? so she would be getting no more power for the money she is paying ? shes confused ^^ im confused ^^ i know its alot more confusing than ill ever begin to understand.

I know these places overcharge for a car you can pick up privately 25% cheaper if not more,i didnt go with her , she went with her mum i think the salesman took advantage, with £5,500,00 im sure if not certain she could get a decent performing car and not a 1.1i engine its like shes going backwards..and paying alot for it...

what do you think she should do ? o.o

No, there never was a 1.2 C2, it must be worded wrongly in the advert you have seen.

You might well be able to get a 1.6 for similar money, as they appeal to different people and for different uses. The 1.1 is very cheap to keep, run, insure and tax, the 1.6 is more expensive and so not ideal for first cars ... also if its a sensodrive gearbox they are no tpopular and you will find some of the cheaper C2s are 1.6 sensodrives, get a manual.

As Jim says, you can get a 1.1 60bhp, a 1.4 75bhp, a 1.6 110bhp engine and in the VTS a 1.6 125bhp. You can also get a 1.4HDi 70bhp and a 1.6HDi 110 too.

The 1.4 would be my choice if its just going to be a run about, however the 1.1 is not a bad engine and goes better than you might expect.

Im not sure on prices, have a look on autotrader for similar age and spec cars. C2s have been out of production for around 18 months to 2 years now and I expect values to fall a bit faster now. Especially as a lot of people prefer a C1, which does a very similar job to the 1.1/1.4 C2 but even cheaper to run and holds the value better.

The Clio is a 1.2 60bhp and the C2 will be a 1.1 60bhp. Unless you want to upgrade engine power you will be still getting a newer/lower mileage car. If your after a more powerful can there is plenty of 1.6s around, though you will only get around 35-40mpg.

£5500 does seem a little pricey to me for a 07 1.1 C2, im sure you can find a cheaper/better one.

If you go for the 1.4 they are available in the Furio spec, you get the VTR bodykit and interior but with a 1.4 engine which seems inurance sensible.
