It's cosmetic:

Driver's door lever open and bent back, hence slight whosshing sound when driving. Crease where door was bent.
Rear o/s door, window winder and door lock us, trim pulled out of place and not pretty.
Few dents here and there.
Potential for clutch replacement.
Radio cassette u/s.
Has new rheostat and ignition switch to fix intermittent heater.
Currently has new spheres, but could be tempted to put them on the VSX if the car is otherwise good (bar the knackered clutch, of course).

It sounds like a good deal then, as your SX needed a clutch anyway so you have not lost out. If you think your SX is past its best then I would be tempted to take off what is useful and sell it on or weigh it in should you be inclined to. Certainly no point in letting the spheres you have just put on go with the car in that case. If your VSX is not riding too well id be swapping them.

I'll just have to see what happens with this VSX.

The story with the clutch on the SX is that when I bought it, the guy I bought it from had not had it long, and I think he'd come by it via a dealer in Torquay who had told the previous lady owner that it would 'need a new clutch soon'. It had around 71k on the clock. Well, that was when she was persuaded to let it go (to the garage, funnily enough), and then it went, via what mechanism, I do not know (!) to the guy I bought it off.

Suffice to say, 3.5 years later, I'm still running it without the slightest indication of a clutch problem! And it's been fantastic ever since. Of course, some git ruined the driver's door, and my own boy ruined the rear window winder by playing with the switch, and I ruined the door innards further, by trying to see if I could find the problem caused by the kid. Oh, dear... this car did not deserve this.

It's just plodded on and on, and now still is low milage. Can I get matching doors for the RHS? Nope.

The radio packed up - easily replaced, obviously, then the heater went intermittent, but now sorted thanks to a new rheostat and ignition switch.

So, it's a super car, really, and I wish the damn doors and windows were ok. Then again, I seek an estate to house the kids for the next ten years, and this VSX comes up that's in great shape, bodywork wise, and only has 10k more than the SX, so I had to go for it. Just wish it was vert Poseidon like my SX. Here's Mrs. Napoleon doing 130 mph in the way back the other day from getting the VSX:

So, hey ho, let's see what happens with the VSX.

Just a little bit of wind noise then  have you tried bending it back? Open the door then stand inside the opening and pull the top towards you.

I didn't drive around like that! I got some 2x4, put it in the door and pressed, and pressed, and pressed, until, the car exploded!

Not really, obviously. No, the door went back virtually as before, a mark on the outside where the paint cracked and fell off, but a proper crease inside. In all, it doesn't show much, but slight wind intrusion, that's it.

I mean, what a horrid, low level thing to do. The equivalent would be me, turning up at his drum, and breaking his leg to get his wallet, and then just walking away as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. I seethe over this, can you tell? I mean, what a creepy Nazi bastard would do this to a car like that? Grrr.

*Calm down, Tim, calm down*

Impressive, how did you keep up!

I like the earlier Xantias on the small wheels and nice wheel trims, very French!

By the sounds of things your SX should sell easil and for an XUD its not even run in yet.

I'm not sure I did keep up, Chris! Just had to keep pumping the throttle.

Yes, very French, I think that's it, for me, the appeal that the car holds, even now, 16 years on. It's just looks right. Half the battle.

 you'll have to find the 'fun' screw on yout TDs if Mrs. Napoleon likes to go a bit quickly

I think your right Tim, there is something about the earlier ones which appeals to me too and the Xantia hatch seems to be getting better looking as time goes by and more shapless car blobs appear. Saying that, your estate is a good looking car and has my favourite Xantia interior.

Im sure you will sell your SX no problem, they are sought after.
