C5 window regulator

Post by Peter.N. »

I'm just finishing up a few jobs on the C5, today it was the turn of the n/s rear window which has been sliding down by itself, I could hear the motor run when I operated the switch but but it didn't move the glass, convinced that the cable had broken I got a complete mechanism from ebay.

This is the first time I have done any work on the doors but not the last as the drivers inside door handle is broken, I am awaiting the arrival of that. Back to the window, I found that the door panel came off much more easily than I was expecting although the lining was a different matter, I had to cut through the glue with a stanley knife, anyway to my surprise I found the mechanism intact, what had happened was that the plastic peg which locks the window onto the winder was missing, there was no trace of it inside but also no evidence that the door panel had ever been off, so what happened to it I don't know, of course there wasn't one on the replacement - is this a common problem?

Should anyone else be in the same situation I have found quite a good solution - so far. A 1/2" blue water pipe liner is exactly the right diameter to be a tight fit, I cut a length off, about 3/4" and as it already has a tapered end it slid nicely into the window assembly, but its tight so I had to apply some pressure with a tyre lever between it and the door, being careful not to damage the latter, and it works a treat. Can you get those pegs as a seperate item?

My overall impression of the serviceability of the C5 has improved even more since I did the job, I am really impressed by the easy way it comes to peices and yet nothing rattles, the sound proofing on the doors is quite elaborate but very simply executed. The C5 is growing on me.

Wow Peter!

I drove my Folks C5 the other day and suddenly remembered every reason why I prefer the Xm over the C5!

The biggest thing was the seats! I hate C5 seats!

I very much like C5 seats and certainly dont find the XMs any better. I can spend equal time in both cars. Then again, we all have different seat requirements

My son who is 6' 4" and very fussy about seats prefers the C5's to the XM's, I wouldnt say I prefer them but they actually look less comfortable than they are.

Yours is a series 1 C5, I have noticed them to be softer than on the series 2 C5s (not C Funf). I just miss the side bolsters on the XM seats that really hug you in. C5 seats aren't inviting, they don't entice me, they don't say come on in and sit down! Quite the opposite in fact.

C5 would be great for your son with all that extra headroom. No use to me though being a good bit shorter than him.

Don't get me wrong, its a nice enough car to drive, and the 2.0 HDI 16V engine with 138bhp is nice. A bit quicker and torquier than the 2.5 Xm but the fuel economy from it isn't much better than a 2.1 TD Xm.

Probably the 'German' influence with the Mk2, if you remember the adverts Robert. I don't find mine to bad although if I get back into the 406 or XM I then find them uncomfortable, most seats I can get used to, the exception being the late 405's they were dreadful but the 406's are surprisingly comfortable.

Hi Peter,

Its not one of ZE German C5s. But the new C5s do have a nicer bucket style seat more akin the to the XM.
