Re: Which Citroën??
This is so very easy to answer!
Buy any 2.0HDI C5, 8v or 16v (16vs all have cruise control ...), if you get one without cruise just add it, for the cost of a cruise stalk and a tiny bit of Lexia tinkering. Ive done this before, its very easy, I can do it!
Then, if you find one without leather you can just buy a set and fit it in. Plenty of C5s get broken now, especially 2.2HDi exclusives ... so shouldn't be too hard to find and Im pretty sure all the wiring is in the car ready for electric seats. Im sure you could live with cloth seats until you find a set of leathers.
You could get a decent 2.0HDi SX C5 with some mileage for £1000, leathers £200, cruise £50. Bargain!
I would say that in terms of cruise, I find the 2.0HDi 110 8vs use a little more fuel when on cruise control. I also find the 2.0HDi 138 16v uses a little less fuel when on cruise control, definitely a noticable improvement at low speeds. And I know why you want it, I find it hard to be without now.
You do very rarely get a 2.0HDi 110 8v Exclusive with leather interior option, but they are few and far between. SX has more than enough spec really, fit leather and cruise and it should suit.
I get around 45MPG from out 2.0HDi 8v on my 70 mile commute, some crawling traffic but mainly motorway sat and mostly in the fast lane ... I think thats very good. If your careful you can easily see over 50. My 16v does over 50 on the same run driven the same, or if anything quicker.

Everybody slates the 2.2HDi but this is what i averaged on a recent drive to Doncaster from London. I wasn't hypermiling and had both the stereo and heating on.

Re: Which Citroën??
The C5 HDi didn't give as good gas mileage as my Xantia HDi. The C5 had cruise but not heated seats, the Xantia vice versa.
If you got a suitable 2.1 XM, it would have all the toys and could be run on straight veg if needed. I run mine on SVO/Bio mix.

Re: Which Citroën??
Not many XM's have the bosch unit though do they??
if i went for an older one it would end up being an XUD
Does the 2.2 early c5 have the DPF with that silly fluid and the DMF as well?
Thats very good MPG from the 2.2 i've gotta say!!

Re: Which Citroën??
I believe all engines larger than 2.0L have DPF and also that only the 110 hp has the DMF as far as I can tell the 90hp one doesn't. The 2.1 engine is very good, more economical than the 1.9 and of course better performance, I regularly get 50 mpg from my XMs. I think the 2.1 Xantia's have a Lucas semi electronic pump but you can fit a Bosch from an XM but you have to change the pipes as well. I have a Bosch 2.1 pump in stock

Re: Which Citroën??
IIRC the speedo pickup and the stop solenoid wires need a bit of chaning as well..
Woudln't be for me im afraid. Think if my job goes that way i'll hunt out a straight veggie muncher.
Just looking thru ebay and they must be rare or just hoarded at the moment as not many for sale and prices are a lot higher than they used to be, though there are the usual £2k type ones that are mint in and out and all but thats not for me.
Do all the 2.2hdi's have auto box's attached?

There is a C5 estate in Exeter with cruise control on £500.00 with no bids at the moment.

Re: Which Citroën??
Saw that one PN
Still waiting to see what happens and applying for shed loads of jobs but seem to be aiming too low at the moment as the few calls i receive either tell me im over qualified or they just couldn't offer the money i'm looking for
1 was a great job as a desktop installed for a PCT in Hull and then in Bradford upgrading machines to W7, spec and software... Needless to say it was contract and for 6months with possible extension and paying roughly 3 times my current daily rate I would rather they just interviewed me and saw that they were getting what they paid for and not aiming too low for a job..

Re: Which Citroën??
Why the interest in the 2.2 C5s? The 2.0HDi is what you want, especially if its low running costs your after. I find the 2.0HDi C5s very cheap to run, in fact I didnt really notice a much fincanical difference from running a 1.4TDi Seat.

Re: Which Citroën??
Well if they can do 3 times my current MPG they cant be bad and with the auto box and cruise as standard with them im not too fussed on loosing leather, plus i have a cheaper source for BioD now, though it involves a trek of sorts
And i;ve seen various posts about removing the DPF and disabling the Eolys type system which would be a help and i know they are capable of really nice power when chipped ( i drove an original 2.2HDi Exclusive SE many moons back that was only 2 years old so was originaly pushing 135bhp but after the chip was just over 180bhp and a loads of torque, and i remember that doing into the 40's most of the time( i was young so it was really rushed about )

Re: Which Citroën??
I have to say im quite tempted to get my 2.0 138 remapped, which should see it somewhere near 175, which would be nice.
Yes, the particulate filter can be removed, so its not the end of the world.

Re: Which Citroën??
Exactly, remove it and find one thats stuffed on ebay or a breakers(even if its dented it wouldnt matter), batter the bits out and shove it on and off you go for better spoolup
i think a lot of them get issues with coking/gumming up and issues with injectors though that could be the 2.0hdi 16v units more likely, but a good few tanks of bio often clears most cars out i've found

Re: Which Citroën??
I'm a bit late in replying.....
Only early XMs had Bosch pumps, however there's a reasonable amount of pumps available, the one from the 1.9 TDs can and have been used with suitable adjustments.
I stayed away from the 2.2 and went specifically for the 2.0 8v HDi because it was a lower tax bracket, was easy to remap to 135bhp, seemingly more efficient (not sure to be honest) and the problems owners were having with 16v heads in terms of being unable to remove the injectors if needed.
Steve.

How many miles has yours done and is the engine in standard tune, your 60.1 is far better than I can achieve although I can get it no problem from the 406. On a recent trip to Bristol at a steady 60 mph it only managed 49.6.
