OK, hands up who suspected a faulty front sensor? Wrong! Using a meter and following the diagram from the post above, it turns about to be the O/S/R that is showing a fault. The contacts are very clean and shiny, and although I did give them a spray with servisol, I doubt there is a problem here.

Is my only option to replace the sensor, or are there other steps I should try first?

I'm afraid if the sensor is out of order then only option to replace it, but
try this first as I've written in the second page there:
"before 'butchering' the rear sensor, measure the resistance also from
the ABS sensor connector (see pic below, similar in MK1 ).
"

The rear ABS sensor connector is over the rear sub frame, ramps would be nice.
Also inspect the sensor wiring route, because it's rather "tricky" to get it back in the same way.

Been underneath this afternoon. Found and disconnected the two pin connector. Measured resistance across the two pins from the sensor - Open circuit. I guess I should be getting a reading similar to the ones at the ECU block if all was well? (1080Ohms or thereabouts). Now searching for a cheap replacement. Car is 1999 (T) Xantia 1.9TD LX Estate.

Anybody point me to suitable replacement please? Funds are very limited :(

Edit:- This seems to fit the bill -

Thoughts anyone?
