Auto Headlights, how to work

I've a 2001 C5 SX I've heard these models have auto headlights? On the light stalk there is a button saying auto however unsure whether its activated or no, could someone shed some light on this as the owners manual is missing

Push the button on the end of the stalk, hold it in and turn on the ignition.
After about five seconds the car will beep and the infoscreen tell you that autolights are active.

As above and they will also come on when the wipers are active for so long.

After four sweeps of the wipers.
And if you flash the headlamps a couple of times.

Those are only temporary though.

Thanks guys, will i need to activate them every time i start the car? finally is there a online version of the owners manual for the mk1 c5?

No, once activated they remain so unless deactivated or the battery is removed.

I am not aware of an online version of the C5 manual. There used to be but it seems only to be the recent models that have them.
