The sounds are a clank when going over some bumps, a clank when sitting down on the drivers seat.
It takes longer to drop the rear than any other action and the rear does sit lower than the front with the engine off.
I'm going to do the bearings first because with the clank sounds it seems as if they definitely need done. I think I'll also bleed it through the bleed screws.
If that doesn't sort the ride out then I'll go for pressure testing. Don't think I could afford to just replace all the spheres in one go. How many does it have, 6?

Given the age of your C5 (how many miles has it done?) It could well be due for a set of spheres.
If the ride is mainly harsh at the back then the arm bearings might be an explaination, however if not I would think spheres. You can get them pressure tested or just replace them.
Failing radius arm bearings can have different symptoms, ive known ones make cracking noises over large bumps, others which give a grinding noise - only really heard if your adding or taking weight from the parked car. Then the more common one seems a more noisey and thudding rear suspension when going over sharp bumps.
