It's on 81k.
The sounds are a clank when going over some bumps, a clank when sitting down on the drivers seat.
It takes longer to drop the rear than any other action and the rear does sit lower than the front with the engine off.
I'm going to do the bearings first because with the clank sounds it seems as if they definitely need done. I think I'll also bleed it through the bleed screws.
If that doesn't sort the ride out then I'll go for pressure testing. Don't think I could afford to just replace all the spheres in one go. How many does it have, 6? :?
Citroenmad wrote:If you have quite a bit of air in your C5s suspension system you will find the pump noisier than it should be and also it takes longer to lift the car. When one of my C5s had air in that was its results but the ride seemed unaffected.

Given the age of your C5 (how many miles has it done?) It could well be due for a set of spheres.

If the ride is mainly harsh at the back then the arm bearings might be an explaination, however if not I would think spheres. You can get them pressure tested or just replace them.

Failing radius arm bearings can have different symptoms, ive known ones make cracking noises over large bumps, others which give a grinding noise - only really heard if your adding or taking weight from the parked car. Then the more common one seems a more noisey and thudding rear suspension when going over sharp bumps.

Only 4 you will be pleased to know. Unless its a H3+ version with the sport button? But I don't think it will be.

I think you can get the rears from as little as £20 each and fronts from £40 (plus VAT) from APE parts. Something like that anyway.

Shame your not closer or I could have tested your sphere pressures for you.

It is indeed the H3+ with the sport button.
How is the pressure testing done on these spheres?

Ah! Is it a HPi petrol or 16v petrol?

In that case, yes, you have 6!

You need a pressure testing rig, can't be bought so they must be made.

Yeah the 16v petrol (EW10J4) I wouldn't be having one of those HPi models!

Finally ordered the 2 bearings and seals from GSF to do my rear offside.
Need to phone my local Citroen to get the spacer, wedge(s) and bushes shortly. How much should I expect to pay?

Ended up paying £19.62 including delivery for 2 bushes and a spacer from Euro Car Care. Wasn't going to buy a pack of shims/wedges for another 20 quid just to use 1 of them :P

To essentially suggest that an element of a mechanical assembly is superfluous, is a bit risky. If you're not able to establish ideal preload then the assembly may experience poor service life.

Nobody suggested anything addo. It's a washer. I'll check the thickness and fit a suitable replacement.

I've seen pre-load of the rear arm bearings mentioned sometime last year on the Forum. Exactly how does one go about deciding what shim/washer is required? Just a matter of feel?

Have to admit that when I did the bearings on one arm of my TD 18 months ago, I was unaware that preload was required. Just re-used the original spacer and the shim/washer
