hdi / xud oil cooler...

Post by citroenxm »

hi all..

can you clever people confirm as to weither the hdi oil cooler is the same as the xud td cooler.. and even the same as the petrol xu cooler where fitted??

the taxi has blown hers at 283k.. leaving the header tank full of grey oil water mix.. but the sump is perfectly clear.. so im pretty certain its the cooler...

cheers

I'd say its a no...

Possibly just remove it as its not that needed if the car is a light duty taxi. More for the warmer climes and the people pushing the engines hard each day.
Porbably the only over-engineering on the car TBH :)

One of its main jobs is to heat the oil up on cold starts (and to then keep it at roughly 80 deg where possible). So on a HDi it is an important item.

Hi Paul

The internal contents all work the same, capacity will be a little different with each type but should not matter.
Pipe orientation can be different so need a bit of hose altering.
Biggest difficulty can be the oil cooler thickness.
Centre hollow bolt threads are common but needs to be the correct length so recover and swap bolt with the matching cooler.
If you need him out and running as a temporary fix loop the cooler out of circuit.
If you do this then put a loop of hose between the cooler pipes as well to stop the car dumping too much oil through the leak.

Well i answered my Q last night on johns response.. the cooler was identical in everything except the water pipe outlets were in opposite positions.. the left one was at the rear the right at the front.. the left one on hdi is at the front because the pipe comes up tight against the altinator mounting bolt and the oil pressure switch.. thats all..

thanks for responses..
