The existing map was downloaded, then sent back to HQ.
About 20 minutes later a modified map was sent back to the technician, which was then loaded back onto the ECU.
As I said, it has made a very noticeable difference, and I have no complaints :-)

Ok, which map did you have uploaded and roughly how much was it? if you don't mind sharing that is.

These were the people I contacted at the time when considering a tune - Angel Tuning: For mine and EDC5's car it would be £275, done at the Oxfordshire Centre - they do a full check and a road test pre and post remapping:

http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/engine-remap/citroen/

They do a £100 discount for 2 cars done at the same time. They can come out to you at a 25p per mile surcharge from their base.

Very tempting haha.

Out of interest, what sort of economy do you get in your X7 160?

So for our cars it would be £225 a pop Elis, but if I decide to get it done, it will be after the age related timing belt and water pump service due next year ish 😁.

But I'd be very interested to get some X7 owner feedback from anyone having it done at Angel.

I dont know ED lol

she sits outside unused for the last 3 months.. I have just insured her and have the dreaded handbrake (I mean) Mot test on Friday at 11..

from distant memory :
I think I used to get around 55 to 60 mpg at best, averaging 60 -65 on the motorway.

I have seen her in single figures once or twice lol.. I imagine the average for me and these roads, is around 45

£225 doesn't seem too bad, but Ideally, I'd like to have a before and after dyno run too.

Same!, as we've discussed before I've got the cambelt to change at some point in the next year too, so I'm in no hurry.

Would be good to hear feedback, especially to check if the economy isn't ruined or that it doesn't lead to the rapid clogging of the DPF.

jgra1: Wow, that is actually better than I get at the moment.... seems like a win-win situation. Does it play nicely with your autobox? my concern is that a remap will be different to the gear change map and lead to erratic changes and other niggles.

I think it will be a matter of adjusting to the higher power / torque availability post-remap. On the 'Economy' tune it is supposed to provide smoother power / torque across the range, so a 'lighter' touch on the gas I would suspect, as opposed to warp factor 9.

I'm wondering if the gearbox is the one that will need to do the adjusting since that responsibility is delegated in my car :rofl2:

Just a possibility, on Diagbox there is a parameter that the gearbox measures called "requested engine torque" and also "actual engine torque" or words to that effect. Hopefully a remap would be configured in such a way to provide the updated figures to the gearbox so that it can make the correct decisions... unless the engine torque is actually measured somehow?

Either way I'm sure I am worrying over nothing.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to sacrifice the economy any further but it seems that both economy and power can be improved at the same time so you'd be daft no to :P

Requested engine torque is as I remember derived from the throttle pedal, actual engine torque? not sure don't recall any sensor in the gearbox that could actually measure torque though I guess it could be derived from RPM making certain assumptions.but I think that would be part of the engine ECU calculation i.e there would be a map of engine revs to torque

have the dreaded handbrake (I mean) Mot test on Friday at 11..
16% handbrake...pass is 16%

as usual the tester couldn't seem to operate second stage handbrake.. I didn't see if the rollers were moving when he was trying!? maybe you can't get that stage working if the wheels are rotating.. I watched him pull lever once..then again and hold..nothing.. worked for me last night though (stationary)

also had to rush and get her a new batt last night.. £92

another year ..always a nervous mot, an x7 ..

despite not driving it for 3 months I got little satisfaction being back in it..handling still seems unusual to me

:)

I was tony. .. but have just insured it for business use and taken some dreadful job near Gatwick.. shift working :(

its an ideal use for the car.. ferrying me around at all hours ;) I may even use some of the fancy features like the phone and so on..

I want to investigate my suspension more now and the gearbox speed sensor .. it could just be that the x7 is heavy and I am expecting it to behave like a xantia in sport mode on the twisties..
