C5 mk 1 - where would you run a live feed from?

Post by Jabo »

Hey

I've been looking for a spot in the bulkhead to run a live feed from the battery to the boot for my amplifiers but I can't really seem to get through anywhere. Is there a common spot that is used?
Had also wondered if there's a simpler solution e.g. is there a heavy gauge 12v available in the rear, maybe from the suspension?

Cigar lighter? or if you really need a lot of amps straight off the battery.

If you read my whole post you would have noticed that I was trying to run it off the battery, I can't find anywhere in the bulk head to poke the cable through :-P

There's a 12 volt accessory socket on the back of the console beside the handbrake lever on the C5, why not connect from the back of that.

I found 2 rubber bungs under the carpet, just above where a wiring loom lays. I dropped the cable down both holes but it just seems to be another floor beneath it.
Am I using the wrong holes?

No idea I had a ramp at work (garage) and looking underneath it was on the passenger side.
I think it was about 6 inch from the sill working in the car.

hi
we need extra power supplies into the cab on every c5 we have and we use the following method.
take your wire straight down from the battery and along the chassis next to gear box then take it along the same route as the handbrake tube then up and over the diesel tank and bring wire through the tank inspection plate. make sure your cable over the tank and the gearbox is secured. the section along the handbrake tube is all enclosed so you dont have to worry about that. when you bring it throught the inspection plate just put a hole in it and you have a ready made gromet

Thanks for that mate. I looked for every which way that I could get it inside the cab but there really seems that underneath is the only option. So I think I'll try your way 8-)

Funny you should ask this because i did this job last night and had exactly the same problem, i eventually found a grommet to the left of the wiper motor that was suitable. You will need to remove the four fixings that hold the wiper arm surrounds and then take the wiper arms off as well. This will give you enough room to lift the surround, look to the left of the wiper motor and you will see an oval shaped grommet thats not used for anything. Remove the grommet and you will find some expanded foam behind it that you can push a screwdriver through and then your power supply cable, it will come through near the bonnet pull lever, run the power supply down the drivers side and the RCA's/remote switch down the passenger side. I earthed my amp on one of the luggage rings on the boot floor. Job done.
