Hi, has anyone had experience with replaceing chrome door trims? Every Citroen I`ve had has suffered with manky trims!
It measures about 16mm X 3mm, so its not so bulky as the XM, and looks fairly straightfoward!
Any idea where I can get about 4mts? the curved fronts are OK.
I`m not going to robdog Citroen!!
Thanks, Dave.

Hi dave,
Brian Primmer, via the CCC, sells stainless steel replacements for the door inserts and these do a lovely job. He always came to rallies with is stock but last time I spoke to him he was thinking of giving up as he's well into his eighties now. I doubt he will though, knowing Brian!
The bumper trim is a bit more difficult as it's not symmetrical. Sometimes you see new inserts at rallies and you just may find it available still from parts suppliers like AEP and people like Malcolm Lockwood who specialise in surplus dealer stock and so on.

Re: Chrome trim 98 Xantia v6
they pop out fairy easily with a thin flat edge in the middle of the trim,
i used aliminium tape on mine which was a cheap fix and looked good, curved sections on the boot were a pita though, am much more tempted with the Plasticote chrome paint for the next attempt!

Good thinking Timmo Thinking on I saw an XM at a rally last year where the stuff they use to 'warp' artic lorry cabs with their liveries was used to refurbish the black window pillars which have a terrible habit of fading badly. It was undetectable...Timmo wrote: am much more tempted with the Plasticote chrome paint for the next attempt!
If a good chrome wrap was available then that might be just the stuff that'll do a good job... There's a 'wrapped' car near here advertising something or other and I'm sure some if it has a chrome appearance...

This is a job I also need to attend to on my car. The trims let the car down badly.......

I went around a breakers yard and from about 6 scrapped Xantias managed to find a set of 4 door trims with good strips. Removing and installing the strips is much easier if the whole trim assembly is gently prised off the door, and they slide out forwards of backwards.

Re: Chrome trim 98 Xantia v6
I got a set of stainless steel replacements for my Xantia and the XM from Brian at the CXM last year. He said it was his last event but he might still sell the trims by post.
If the trims are just dull they can, aparently, be shined back to life with some fine wet and dry. Ive not tried this yet, the front one on my Xantia is a little dull but has not got water ingress, so I might give that a try.
Ive also got a new front bumper trim for the Xm which Im yet to fit. I got it from Citroen, one of the last available they said, but they had ran out of the cut version for XMs with headlight washers. Which is fine, I just need to cut the trim to suit the headlight washers. XM estate rear bumper chromes were not available though Not sure about the XM hatchbacks rear trims or in fact Xantia bumper trims. Might be worth checking with a dealer soon if your car is in need of either.

Good lord that must be strong stuff
these do let a lot of the xantia's down.... I may go for a chrome or even silver overspray.. as a cheap fix...
thanks

Re: Chrome trim 98 Xantia v6
Thanks for all your help. I looked at several chrome trims on Ebay, thought it would be an easy replacement! But as the existing section section is not central, it is`nt a case of just replaceing it with 14mm trim as I thought!
About 50mm on one end of each trim has had moisture ingress.
So I have just rubbed down filled and sprayed silver. I dont think the chrome paint weathers very well.
It might be worth it if anybody has got perfect trims, to take them off and silicone the ends, cos that`s where the damp gets in.
Still its given me somthing to do on a damp Sunday!
Thanks again.
Dave.

Re: Chrome trim 98 Xantia v6
I managed to convince various Citroen dealers across the country to sell me there old stock of bumper strips with the silver in at an average of £10 each including postage!xantia_v6 wrote:I went around a breakers yard and from about 6 scrapped Xantias managed to find a set of 4 door trims with good strips. Have a go as it does spoil the look of a good car?
