Picasso 53 plate 2.0hdi issue!

Post by pottheed »

I had an issue 6 months ago and I used this forum to help me fix the problem - yay!! - thanks guys!

Now a new problem :( after my beloved picasso being parked at the side of the road for 6 days, when it is started white smoke pours out the back, and there is literally no power, the engine will not rev (roughly) 200rpm above idle, with yet more white smoke out the back. It is undriveable. Has anyone else had this issue, or have any idea what it may be?

I have a guess that it is head gasket but am very unsure!!

Does the engine management light remain illuminated when the engine is running?

Nope - no warning lights
however the airbag light spends 1 week on and 1 week off, but has done for years!

Just out of curiosity, if the engine warning light was on, what would that mean?

It would mean a serious problem with the engine - either a sensor or injector, and a Lexia Diagnotic session would show up the faults, but without the warning lamp, it wont..

Has the warning lamp blown? Does it come on with the ignition on, but engine not running... It should be similar to an ABS light, on before engine start, out when running, unless an engine fault.

Sounds like the injectors are not getting enough fuel pressure and not injecting the fuel at a high enough pressure.. Does it have a fuel tank lift pump??

That's not entirely correct as whilst serious faults will illuminate the warning lamp, lower grade faults may still be recorded and could well be a contributing factor to the fault but not illuminate the warning lamp.

It can only really be one of three things. What does it smell like?

1. Steam - caused by head gasket (or head) failure. Won't smell that much
2. Unburnt diesel - loss of compression or timing failure - smells of unburnt diesel!
3. Unburnt engine oil - failure of exhaust side turbo seal - smell of unburnt engine oil!
