Xantia head gasket

Post by sidewaysmatt »

Hi everyone,
Just in the process of a head gasket change on my 96 Xantia TD, after it dumped all it's oil[:(!]. The gasket has blown at the point where the oil feed to the camshaft passes through ie. at the corner near the diesel pump.
Anyway, the question is the gasket that has come off is a 2 notch. Do replace it with a the same, or do I have to go through all the rigmarole of measuring piston protrusion and calculating gasket clearance etc. that the Heinous manual says? (as it's lied about most of the cylinder head removal process I'm doubting it[:D]).
Thanks,
Matt

If the head doesn't need skimming, you can probably put a 2 back on, if the head does need skimming, you're probably looking at a 3.
Has it overheated at all ? If it has, you're looking at a skim.
