Part Number Radiator for ZX Turbo Diesel

Post by Six-cylinder »

I need the part number for the Radiator of my ZX Turbo Diesel 5 door manual, it was first registered 12th May 1993, RP 5910.

Believe it or not when I went to collect the Slip ring for the Xantia today the radiator on my ZX TD gave up and is losing water badly to the extent I had to top the water up after a few miles at a garage and return home to get a reserve vehicle for the trip.

I have looked at the radiator and it looks old and corroded so I feel its time to replace it. I am not keen on secondhand with radiators and I am looking for a new one, some of the information sellers give is doubtful as I found a listing for a ZX TD Auto that I don’t think they ever made. I am look for the part number so I can check what I an ordering.

Thanks

Chris

Any tips for fitting the bottom hose?

I have the radiator now and have tried several times to fit the bottom hose but I just can’t get the male hose end with the O-ring on it to slide inside the radiator outlet far enough for the clips to hook over the outlet. I have made sure the location lug is lined up and I have tried the new O-ring that came with the radiator also the old one and one from my own stock of O-rings.

Help?

it pays to use some silicon grease or spray to help the O ring locate into its seat,
be very carefull with those silly tags  on the locking device as once they break off you will need a new bottom hose,

dont use oil or standerd grease as it will rot the O ring

I have used a drop of neat antifreeze to lubricate it as I do not have any silicon grease but still can’t get the O-ring fitted to the male bottom hose to slide inside the radiator outlet pipe the few mm needed to get the clips into place.

i dont think antifreeze will lubb it enough to make it slip in,
maybe you have some vasoline or KY jelly    [-o<

i think it calls for a big helping of PERCY WHAT SIT,

you are fitting the O ring to the hose end first as this is the best way,

even though you think the locator is engadged try turnning the hose very slightly on pushing it inwards,

thats most odd Chris, i know they can be a BBBBB, have you tried it again without the seal/O ring just to make sure it hasnt damaged the edge's of the lug/locaterin the kneck of the rad,

if memery serve's it feel like it aint going to go, then all of a sudden it drops in,

honist.gov

just keep PERCYING and WHATSITING

Be careful if you are trying to fit a pattern radiator rather than a genuine citroen one.I replaced my zx one last year and had to remove the bottom hose first and fit to the new rad on the bench as the hose connection on the rad had been moulded so tight. There was excess plastic in the bottom of the connection preventng the hose going fully home.Even with this carefully trimmed out it was still more than just a push fit. Never had any problem with removing and fitting the hose to the original rad.You can then fit the radiator with the hose in place.Really needs two of you to feed the hose through the wing but not as difficult as it sounds.

It was the second pair of hands that did the trick, my adult son came round and I set him to work and that did it.

Previously I had measured the internal diameter of the bottom hose inlet and found it to be identical but I did find the section of the O ring Northern radiators supplied was slightly larger and the O ring from my selection box slightly harder so I have reused the original one. I have done about 30 miles now and all seems ok.
