I would say 5253 is screw on and 5290 is plate connected.
I wonder if Sanden come in two fittings?

Romie did you check the face of the pulley?

Of course all this is moot as from the sounds of things you have a hybrid of the old aux belt tensioners and new alt/aircon positions so the belt length in the haynes may not be right, it depends if the manual tensioner is in the same position where the auto tensioner pulley would be if fitted.

Fixed the images (although they're huge!)
Naughty photobucket.

So 5290 is Delphi plate, and 5253 is Delphi screw on.
I would hazzard a guess that 5290 and Sanden, despite being both plates, might not be interchangable.
Unless we find that Sanden comes in both flavours.

hey, I've not been able to check the pulley plate yet, (lots of rushing around this morning including going back to Citroen and picking up some sphere seals for when I need to remove the front right hand sphere to do the belts... over £6 for two seals!?). Followed by a lot of whacking the alternator to get into work.

I'm going to put a head-torch on tonight when I get back from work, prob after 7pm, and see if I can get a picture of the pulley face :/

Huge gratitude for all the support guys, Citroen guy just nodded when I said "it was very worrying that depending on how you enter their Citroen database you can have a choice of two or four different belt lengths!", hmmm

romie, try some Forte Cooling System Stop Leak for the matrix.
It is only a put-me-on but is quite effective by all accounts.
Don't be tempted to use any other sealer though (Barrs, K-Seal etc.)

Hiya, yeah I've had quite bad experiences with rad-sealing agents in my motorbike. Ended up blocking the small channels thus causing over heating in the summer. Think I'll just put up with it until I get a chance to do something about it properly. Might just by-pass it if it gets too bad. (I am assuming the probs the heating matrix and not the air con evaporator?.. hmm, can't be oil from the compressor getting out?.. na, must be heating matrix :/ )

Cheers!

The Forte stuff won't clog anything up except the leak.

No; that's the damper pulley (and it looks so ancient I wouldn't time an engine off it).

SANDEN: Compressor heads do not have mounting ears on them.

DELPHI: Compressor heads have the rearmost mount ears as part of the casting.

Booooooooo-yeah!!

Cool. We're still leaning towards a Delphi unit then with the triangular shaped plate.

In. Your. Face Kool-Aid man!!

(sorry, I was hoping we were going toward Delphi as I've already ordered the 1710mm belt for the three point alternator and delphi combination as I needed to get it on-time for weekend)

See how the belt sits "properly" on the compressor pulley?

That's your proof of the hydraulic pump's misalignment.

You can adjust the pump alignment? Great, I'll do that when fitting new belt. Any pointers on doing that? Vernier between front and back of the pulley? Spirit level? :p
