Worth checking if your tensioners are wonky too as this can cause the belt to move a tooth, I had this issue on my 1.9 306, a broken AUX belt on a Xantia is NOT a good thing, you will lose brakes after a couple of pedal presses!
As Dommo said in a previous post :/

It jumped a tooth then shed the overhang :s

.. and so workin' on it!

It's been badly fitted, not enough care taken to get it fully on.

Xac wrote:Looks like manual tensioner to me, so yours is a bit of a mix between the 1.9 and 2.1 pictures in the haynes book.

Get the cam belt cover on to protect it. If the aux belt were to snap or debris get flicked up it'll be staight into your cam belt and if it doesn't snap it, all it takes is for something to get between the belt and a pulley and your timing slips potentially destroying the cam.

The plunger restricts the responsiveness of the throttle, removing it can make the car feel a bit snappier.
Another tweak is to use a 15mm spanner to slacken the lock nut in the top of the ufo on the fuel pump, then with a T27 turn the fun screw clockwise two turns. Ticghten up the lock nut and see if you smile when you go for a drive.
It increases the fuelling when on boost (above 2000rpm) giving you a bit more power.
Manual tensioner - check. That doesn't effect the type of belt does it? (longer/shorter)?

Cool, will try the power mod you mentioned :p

Just ranting....

AaaaahhhhhhhhG!

Ok, so to get this damn AUX belt I need to know if it has a Harrison Or Sanden air con compressor >:| Apparently they can match up the belt if I take it off the car and bring it to them. At this rate I might be able to do that after it's snapped!

Better make a note of the colour of the compressor for when they ask for it as well!

Look at the backside of the compressor (ie not the belt end) where the solid pipes connect.
If they are individually held on by massive nuts, then it's a delphi harrison
If they go into a plate that is bolted to the compressor, then it's a sanden

which ever type of tensioner that is it looks to me to be a bit on the scew like this /, if it is thats why the belt has jumped over the edge of the pump pulley,

alspo i wouldnt wait for the belt to break as it will almost certainly take out the cam belt as well,

if you remove the aux belt and make a mark with tipex then mesure all the way round from tipex mark and back to the same point, this will tell you the length then count the ribs which wil probably be 6,

Good, solid advice Malcolm :-D Yes, they're a 6 rib belt and the size to get will be, after marking and measuring as you suggest Malcolm, will be a 6PK<measured size in mm>. So if you measure the belt as say 1725mm then you need to get a 6PK1725. Good factors sell them by size.

EDIT. Get new cam covers ASAP. It's dangerous without them. They're available from stealers and not expensive either. Definitely cheaper than an engine rebuild...

:) I wasn't 'actually' going to wait until it breaks!

Sooo, been back down to Citroen to collect the O-rings.

Half an hour later and they couldn't tell me what compressor I had, but they did print me off the diagrams of both compressors.

Apparently depending on which one the belt is 10mm different in length 1700-1710mm, (Citroen guy suggested that there is probably more than 10mm adjustment anyway).

But from what Xac said this looks like the Delphi unit, yeah?

I have seen an aux belt misaligned like that; the cause is icorrect alignment of the hydraulic pump (look how all other grooved pulleys remain fully seated while it is one off).

The "slip and grip" pump fixings are either installed wrong or they're tightened without due care to align the pump. Both are common enough in the hands of experts...

Yup, that's a Delphi-Harrison...

Another sure way of telling is if the pulley face is smooth(ish). Then Sanden pulley has three straps across it.
