I have the xexon sort of lights and they are self leveling and very bright, what sort of lights do you have?

Not sure if all S1 C5's have self leveling? but I guess there should be some adjustment. Someone should be along to help.

Not sure if all S1 C5's have self leveling?
Mk.1 Exclusives have the arc-lights, though don't know if all do.
SX versions of the Mk.1 C5 don't. Nor does the base model.

Prefer the SX headlights (mine's a 2002 estate) ... good enough
using Osram Night-Breakers, and less to go wrong.

8-[ But the car's self-levelling anyway -- did you mean headlamp units
which follow the steering?

The lights on our C5 conform to modern standards- super bright but useless.

As far as I know the Xenon HIDS beam heights are adjusted using a Lexia, the normal hot glowing worm types :-) are mechanicaly adjusted on the headlight assembly, have seen adjacent to the securing screws markings which suggest that there is adjustment on the screws but this doesn't seem to do anything on HIDS.

If yu have an exclusive then you may have the xexon lights and they like mine should be super bright. You can tell if you have them as you will have head light washers.

Definitely no rectangular sections on the bumper just below the headlights at all? Didn't know ours had h/light washers 'till I changed a blown fuse  Even called the missus and the kids outside to look at the amazing washer things I'd just "found"

One big issue with C5,s and normal bulbs, is to make sue the bulbs are positioned perfectly in the mounting fitment. If they are tilted slightly or rotated a little, the lights will be very poor. As they are tricky to fit this is a common issue.

I don't really have a problem with my lights, didn't with the Xantia either but the best lights were on the GS.
Driving to work in the dark and with wet roads I notice that the road surface appears to absorb all the light falling on it but the verges are illuminated to a satisfactory level.

Perhaps they need the relay mod that radically improves Xantia lights - there's a description somewhere that basically involves wiring the lights directly to the battery (through a fuse) with heavy gauge wire and switched by relays operated by the normal headlight feed.

There are some supposedly more efficient bulbs available, Osram Night-breakers* and Philips Extreme-Power and Extreme-Vision.

Reading the reviews, both on the linked pages and elsewhere there seems to be a lot of conflicting views on their suitability and level of improvement.

There are also 100W bulbs but using these appears somewhat dubious too - the wiring in the loom is for 55W and may not tolerate the increased load and I have seen it mentioned that they may not be legal, not sure about that though.

The former are said to be good but the latter more effective due to a better beam pattern.
I haven't tried either yet but contemplating getting some for my daughter's Rover 75 as she claims her lights are hopeless.

I imagine it is dependent on the reflector and lens combination.
There seem to be as many disappointed customers as pleased ones.

I find C5 headlights very good, I don't have self leveling Xenons, just H7 bulbs. If adjusted correctly they are very bright and light the road up very nicely.
