Rumours about end of Hyrda active

Post by paulbx »

Folks

was thinking of splashing out on a C5 tourer exclusive - used. But as this is now the ONLY Citroen with full Hydra pneumatic I do not want to spend big money on a tech dead end.

Any views ?

I would pick a hydra active C5 over a steel sprung one anyday , I wouldn't call it a technological dead end , more like the bean counters cutting back . Look at the cuts Renault annouced recently , one of the cuts was dropping the Laguna from it's model range but that doesn't mean it's a bad car technically either , if I was in the market for a C5 I would definetly seek out a Hydra Active one and I would still buy a Laguna III too and may do in the near future

Last car ever produced with decent suspension and you're thinking that's a reason NOT to buy it????

C5's are propper hydraulic citroens

the XANT is the very last full blooded hydraulic citroen, as all three systems are ppowerd by a common hydraulic pump and true citro blood (LHM ),

were as the C5 has a coventional brakeing system that your foot has to produce the brakeing force/effort,
ordinairy power steering and hydraulic suspenders

I am keen to buy one I just concerned that if they stop supporting hydra active - parts will be tricky and price of car will plummet on re sale. Mind you you I tend to keep them for years,

No real worries on that score. Almost everything is still available for the Xantia and that's been out of production for 11 years now. The same will apply to the C5 and no doubt specialist will spring up to keep them supported..

I work in vehicle manufacturing. By law, the manufacturer is obliged to supply parts for 10 years from the date of last production. As for resale value, I thought Citroens typically lost the value quite quickly? That is the reason I buy them, superb value for money, and normally pretty reliable too!
