2002 C5 Climate Control problem

Post by Citroenmad »

Our 2002 C5 SX has been developing a problem with its climate control. Its not the common problem of one side blowing hot, so its got me puzzling.

I can set the temperature to, say, 23 for both side, for a short time it appears to be about right, then it goes cold. So I turn up the temperature and for a while its ok until it gets chilly again. No matter what temperature it always goes a bit chilly, certainly not the temperature dialled in.

Otherwise the climate works fine and both sides work the same.

Could it be a problem with the temperature sensors?

Sounds like it Chris, especially if they're similar to the Xantia type fan-assisted cabin temperature sensors. You have the same symptoms that happen on a Xantia if the fan stops...

Hi Jim

Ive never heard an interior temperature fan on a C5, though it has two small grills which might hold one. One behind the panel on the dashboard, just where the heating controls are. The other is in the roof, in the lighting unit.

Ill pull them out and see if they are still working.

I would have thought, it having dual zone climate, that a sensor would be needed on the passenger and drivers side, it doesn't appear that way though.

Some C5s have a sunlight sensor too, though this ones doesn't appear to have one.

Does your exterior temp sensor work accurately? Climate control systems use a combination of interior/exterior sensors to maintain an accurate temperature. If the outside one is fubar'd then your system won't work accurately.

I have the same car as you and also an a/c problem so i had it looked at by smile citrroen in portsmouth and after a diagnostics check they told me its not electrical but its the a/c compressor but then they also told me it could just be a bad electrical connection or even a broken wire but they would need to have the car in to actually clarify the problem, so one minute its not electrical and then the next they are telling me it could be so im confused!, it seems to me that modern climate control/aircon in citroens is a black art that requires a lot of time and money to be spent on it when faults occure sorry i cant help just giving you the heads up
